Overcoming nerves

(I told you I’d be back!)

It’s natural to be nervous doing stand up, even at the 2 men and half a dog level I’m at. I used to think they were a good thing, that I needed the energy from them. But it wasn’t helping. I’d fluff lines. I wouldn’t interact with the audience. I stopped enjoying it.

So I decided to do my best to beat the nerves and enjoy myself. I made sure I was well prepared then tried to forget all about it until I got on stage. And my last two gigs have been some of the best for a while.  The audience enjoyed it. I enjoyed it.

Having said that at my latest gig one of the other comics told me I looked like I didn’t even care. But I think that’s just because of my face. I always look like that.
